Oil tanks need servicing too!
You might be surprised to hear that an annual oil tank inspection is recommended. Some insurance companies actually request this as part of the policy requirements.
If you have an older, metal oil tank it probably needs replacing. Even if you check and paint your tank every year you won’t know if there’s a problem until it’s too late and it begins to leak. Condensation can cause steel oil tanks to corrode from the inside taking you completely by surprise.

FAQs – oil tank inspection and disposal
Here you will find some of the questions that we are commonly asked about oil tank inspection and disposal. If you can’t find the answer to your question, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
Why would I need my oil tank to be inspected?
Regular inspections catch problems early — things like corrosion, cracking, oil staining, or a failing gauge — before they turn into a leak or a failed delivery. It’s also worth having a check if you’re buying or selling a property, or if your tank hasn’t been looked at in a few years.
What does a tank inspection involve?
Our OFTEC-qualified engineers check the tank itself, its base, supports, and surrounding pipework for signs of wear, damage, or non-compliance with current regulations.
What happens if you find issues during the inspection?
If we find a problem, we’ll explain exactly what’s wrong and talk you through your options — whether that’s a repair, or replacement if the tank’s beyond a safe standard. There’s no obligation to book anything on the spot; you’ll have all the information you need to make the right decision.
How do you dispose of an old oil tank?
We remove old or condemned tanks safely and dispose of them in line with current waste carrier licensing and environmental regulations, so you don’t need to arrange anything separately or worry about how it’s handled.
Should I be concerned if I think I have a damaged tank?
A damaged or leaking tank can create serious environmental and financial risk — oil leaks can be costly to clean up. If you’re at all unsure about your tank’s condition, it’s worth getting it checked rather than waiting for a problem to appear.
