FAQs – new boiler

Here are some of the questions that we get asked quite a lot. If you would like more information or can’t find the answer to a question you have, then please get in touch. We’ll be happy to help you.

How do I know if I need a new boiler rather than a repair?

If your boiler is breaking down repeatedly, or repair costs are creeping close to the price of a new unit, replacement is possibly the better long-term option. During a call-out or service, we’ll always give you an honest opinion on whether repair or replacement is likely to make more sense for your situation — there’s no pressure either way.

How long does a new boiler installation take?

Most straightforward oil boiler replacements only take up to two days, so you’re rarely without heating for long. If your installation involves extra work — like upgrading pipework or moving the boiler’s location — we’ll let you know in advance so you know what to expect.

Will a new boiler save me money?

Modern oil boilers are significantly more efficient than older models. Exactly how much you’ll save depends on your current boiler’s age and condition.

Can I choose an HVO-ready boiler for the future?

Yes — we install Sapphire boilers that are fully HVO-ready, meaning you can switch to a lower-carbon renewable fuel later without needing another new boiler.

Do I need to replace my oil tank at the same time as my boiler?

Not necessarily — if your existing tank is in good condition and meets current regulations, it can usually stay in place.

NEW OIL BOILERS ARE MORE EFFICIENT

Modern boilers are more efficient for several reasons, but their main advantage is that they are all condensing boilers. All well-maintained boilers (regularly serviced) burn their fuel very efficiently, but they inevitably lose some heat in the hot gases that escape up the flue.

A condensing boiler has a larger heat exchanger, so it recovers more heat, sends cooler gases up the flue and is more efficient. Sometimes the flue gases get so cool that the water vapour in the gas condenses out (hence the name), and even more energy is recovered from the condensing vapour.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS

  • REPLACEMENT BOILER

Needed a boiler changing in my house, had other plumbers around to discuss what I wanted and gave quote, wouldn’t work to my plan, expensive and tried to confuse me with regulations and technical jargon even though I said I don’t have a clue what they are talking about. Had Mark over, worked around all my plans, said things how it was, and he quoted much cheaper. Here on time, very clean and tidy and overall I’m very happy with work, will be my go to ‘oil man’.
